JOY AND NICE LITTLE SURPRISES

Today’s ramble is taken from a story told me by a friend of mine.  I think it is always JOY when little surprises happen in our lives.  Here’s her story:

Since getting married and having (4) kids, I gained weight.  I quit wearing my wedding ring because it didn’t fit anymore.  I went without one for awhile but then Mom had some rings she didn’t want and so I went through them.

Mom picks up rings at garage (tag) sales and such like a bag of costume jewelry for a dollar etc.  Sometimes they’re rings that a grandma doesn’t want anymore - you get the idea.

I looked through these bag of rings and found one I really liked (may have picked out a couple, but this one caught my eye).  I started wearing it as my wedding ring set.  It’s one I’ve been wearing now for a few years. (Author’s note: I’ve seen it, it’s beautiful!)

All this time that I’ve worn it - I never take it off - it’s never turned my finger green or faded, etc.  That got me to thinking it must be real to some degree - even just electroplated or something.

I took it to a jeweler and just asked him if he could tell me anything at all about it - mainly is it real or not.  Here’s the kicker - he tells me that the ring is real gold, the diamond is real, and that it is custom-handmade!  I was in shock!  I made him repeat what he said - didn’t believe I actually heard that - LOL.

All this time I thought maybe it was just a really good fake - sure looked nice, and now I know why - because it’s not fake!  Isn’t God so good to me!!!  He blessed me with this back then and I didn’t even know to what extent.

After I got an official appraisal, I discovered the ring is a ladies 14k yellow gold diamond bridal set (go figure - it’s actually a bridal set).  The center diamond is .40 cts with excellent color, good clarity, and very good polish and symmetry.  There is also six small melle diamonds at .075 cts each.  The center diamond is set into a six prong 14k white gold peg head and it the appraised value is almost $2950.00!      —Shelly

Now that’s JOY, wouldn’t you agree?
